POPCORE is a multi-disciplinary performance art event whose subversive aesthetic stems from the transformation of pop culture symbols. Popcore is both an art event and an artists' collective. The aim is to present a series of performances by recognized artists from the fields of audio art, video art, multimedia art, robotic art, electronic music, electro-acoustics and performance. The evening's subversive aesthetic stems from the theme of the transformation of pop culture symbols, the originality of the formats and mediums of presentation, and the effort at interactivity between the different mediums and participants. The evening unfolds as follows: presentation of a series of performances followed by a jam session involving all the participants.

The evening is hosted by a duo of MC who introduces the artists and performances.

POPCORE // PROJECTS // ARTISTS

SZKIEVE (Dimitri Della faille) Le bruit du dollorama > For this performance, Szkieve uses children's toys and other gadgets bought in dollar stores as sound sources. Using a variety of recording tools, he explores in a noisy way the sonic universe of the electrical and electronic objects available in these stores. The performance is accompanied by a visual presentation inspired by the aesthetics of dollar stores.

JEAN-AMBROISE VESAC American toy space shuttle > Noise music made with an American toy space shuttle. The dream of space meets the floor.

JAMES VESPER > Live drum'n'bass performance built from loops cut from existing pieces from a variety of sources.

TAXI NOUVEAU (Manuel Chantre) Live Game Boy > Taxi nouveau performs his first sonatas for Game Boy. Among others, he presents Fast & Free, Créatine Contine and a death metal-influenced piece. An exploration of the possibilities offered by the handheld game console.

SIMON LAROCHE > Southside connexion n'Tennessee noise trial Southside connexion n'Tennessee noise try out West Coast VS Centre Sud, Elvis "Pressé" Presley not quite resurrected, other disheveled pop hits.

AUX TOMATES SYSTÈME (Danny Perreault) > Blenders + pop vinyl Aux tomates système (ATS) puts on a techno domotic performance of POP vinyl destruction. He first crushes the sound content of the turntables in his computer, then disposes of the records by destroying them in electric culinary blenders. The result is a rhythmic chaos of computer-sequenced sounds and devices.

LES TECHNOCRATES (Pascal Coté + Nadia Duguay) > The technocrats work in close collaboration with the members of the collective to create videos that accompany and influence the performances. They integrate video elements conceived by the collective's artists and remix them live during their performances, or create videos entirely in keeping with the themes of the proposed performances.
