Dates: May 22 to 31, 2009

Location: Cabot Square

Utilizing an electronic message board, this project transforms banal traffic commands into a cycle of poetic words offering to the itinerant public a subtle disruption to, and a moment of reflection on, everyday life.

Angela Silver examines notions of absence through the residue of language. Working with obsolete writing technologies, such as typewriter balls she restructures and reorders language systems. She is not motivated from any sense of nostalgia but seeks to reorder the artifacts and paraphernalia associated with these outdated machines and their processes. Her work has been exhibited in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto as well as in Rome, Pittsburgh and New York.
