Call for proposals

Passeport 2024

DARE-DARE invites artists to take part in the 2024 edition of its biennial Passeport event, with this year's theme: Avec les moyens du bord - Amour et bouts de chandelles.

PASSEPORT 2024

With the means at hand - Love and candlelight

Dear artists, natural pillar of dreams and actions, indispensable sponsor, unconditional backer of funds, foundations and ideas, purveyor of the imaginary, perpetual sponsor, close and essential helper, unfailing support for all time...

It's with great enthusiasm that we're launching this appeal for your support, and inviting you to join a wonderful line-up of a dozen artists by participating in the next edition of PASSEPORT DARE-DARE with one of your interventions. The event will be presented as part of the Journées de la culture and will take place on September 28, between noon and 6:00 p.m., in the Little Burgundy neighborhood.

This art rally consists of an itinerary where a hundred or so participants (often returning fans), holders of a PASSPORT (acquired at the start of the itinerary), are invited to collect various graphic interventions (prints, collages, decals, drawings, etc.) created by artists who are members and friends of DARE-DARE. This unique treasure hunt allows you to complete a booklet of original and exclusive works in just a few hours, at the end of a trajectory unveiled on the same day.

Please note that your artistic intervention must be designed to be reproduced on a small 9 x 14 cm page at lightning speed (1 minute maximum) in around 100 passports.

CONTEXT of the 2024 edition

In a world of precariousness - cuts - restrictions and austerity, making magic with little calls for the inventiveness of alternative economies.

When it came to formulating the contours of this new edition of PASSEPORT, we were torn between the idea of a strike, suspending artists' work to demonstrate against the recurrent underfunding of culture, and the need to assert our presence while demanding the right to decent working conditions.

Faced with this dilemma, we've chosen to appeal to you and call for proposals that are characterized by the spirit of the manifesto, the slogan, resistance, resilience or post-capitalist utopias. This year, to make 2 ends meet and to highlight the culture of cutbacks and frugality that is perpetually imposed on us, the passport will adopt a DIY and "handmade" invoice. This year, the passport will get a zine skin!

To make this magic trick a reality, DARE-DARE is offering you a symbolic fee of $100 and a mini-production budget of $75 to cover expenses related to your intervention. We'd be more than honored to count on your participation.

Warmest regards,

Thank you for your precious and essential generosity in responding to this appeal. We are aware that it is thanks to your contribution that such projects are possible.

About PASSEPORT DARE-DARE

Since 2012, PASSEPORT DARE-DARE (one of our artist-run center's flagship events) has enabled us to bring together an eclectic range of artists to interact with the public in various ways over the course of a day, and at the same time, a special opportunity to build on the links between art, the neighborhood that welcomes us, and the riverside and artistic communities. In this way, PASSEPORT becomes an ephemeral collective exhibition, scattered throughout the neighborhood where the artist-run center is located. The interventions are added to the PASSEPORT booklet by each of the guest artists, and carried out in situ at one of the 10 stations along the itinerary that unfolds around our headquarters, the CÉDA.

All previous editions of PASSEPORT are amply documented on our website, so we recommend you take a look there to find out all about them!
