As part of his micro-residency at HALTE on August 11 and August 31, Chedly Boughedir explored the notion of the archive through lenticular printing, a technique for creating images that give the illusion of relief. Guided by a reflection on intermediality, he explores the living aspect of archives and the influence of space on their reception.
During his residency, Chedly drew inspiration from the books in the collection and the environment of Parc Sainte Cunégonde. In a logic of détournement, the artist reworked the selected elements digitally to create digital collages serving as the basis for his lenticular prints.
On November 16 at 1:30 p.m. at 2515 rue Delisle (local 311), the artist will host a participatory workshop to create a lenticular board unique to each individual. Following a logic of sequentiality, participants will be able to compose with lenticular vignettes previously produced by the artist. At the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with the piece of lenticular archive they have created. This post-residency workshop will also provide an opportunity to discuss the construction of archives and the forms of critical reading they give rise to.
Chedly Boughedir
Chedly Boughedir is an artist-researcher originally from Tunisia and currently based in Montreal. His work focuses on exploring the interactions between comics, glitch and digital tools. He received his bachelor's degree in product design in 2016 and his master's degree in research in 2021, both from the Institut des Beaux-Arts in Tunis. Subsequently, Chedly created the installation Glitchy Moon, which was first shown in Tokyo in 2023 at “Gesai 22”, making him the first artist from North Africa to participate in this contemporary art event. The work was then exhibited in Tunis in 2023 at the TGM Gallery, and in Toronto in 2024 at the Fragmentation colloquium at the University of Toronto.
As part of his doctorate in research-creation at the Université de Montréal, which began in January 2024, Chedly theorizes and works on the concept of “Glitch Comics”. His thinking and practice are rooted in the currents of intermediality and post-digital comics.
