Janick BurnDecember 9, 2023 - November 9, 2023
Closing event of Janick Burn's micro-residency at DARE-DARE's HALTE
Saturday, December 9, 1 pm - 3 pm
2515 Delisle Street, Montréal
During her micro-residency at La Halte, Janick Burn explored her experience of reading and what lies on its periphery. To pursue her research, the artist is proposing a reading and writing workshop to observe, explore and collectively reflect on different strategies for investing the off-field through the experience of reading. For example, we'll be looking at how reading can enable us to think about space outside the text, and even influence our ways of being. These questions will be addressed through an open and subjective approach to artistic practice.
The workshop lasts around two hours, and consists of individual exercises, pooling and relaxed discussion. No special experience or preparation is required. Just bring your writing utensils!
** Places are limited! To participate, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org
Janick Burn is an artist, curator and author. Originally from the Outaouais/Anishinabewaki region, she has lived in Montréal/Tio'tia:ké for several years. Her practical and theoretical research focuses on the relationship between body and frame, which she addresses through a reflexive approach to performance, image and writing. More recently, she has taken an interest in self-publishing as an artistic practice and alternative mode of exhibition, and regularly publishes texts in contemporary art magazines.
Most recently, she organized the group exhibition Exposer avec l'autoédition to expose the self, which was presented at the AdMare artist-run center (Îles-de-la-Madeleine, 2022) and at Arprim (Montreal, 2023). Her work as an artist has been seen in several performance events and exhibition venues, including Galerie de l'Université de Montréal (2020), Plein sud (Longueuil, 2019) and Musée d'art de Rouyn-Noranda (2019).
