Louise Rheault

Étrange culture

Étrange culture draws from within our civilization the objects that define it. It is also the place of our private space, of the fruits of our childhood, of the old ones which shaped our personal and family history.

Étrange culture (Strange culture) is an exhibition in which young artist Louise Rheault presents a series of cultural superimpositions. Through her incisive, analytical vision of the elements that make up a culture, our culture, we are transported to a place of worship and mystery.

Étrange culture draws from within our civilization the objects that define it. It's also the place of our private space, of the fruits of our childhood, of the old people who have shaped our personal and family history; it's History. A place where fascination and exasperation rub shoulders and respond to each other. A universe in which the present and the past, commemoration and culture, come together.

Étrange culture is that of the everyday world, where the security of the known and familiar, the taste of the berries of our fields, the filiation to our ancestors evoked by the funerary cult. This superimposition of cultures, both natural and cultural, raises questions about reproduction and representation. The reflection is that of an inscription and a definition of private and public space-time. Photocopying and photographic transfer appear here as plastic embodiments of the traces of many transformations.

Étrange culture is the floor of our kitchens, the blueberries and strawberries of our fields, the death cards of our elders... The private space of our memories becomes a public place, and Louise Rheault's works distance themselves from the intimacy of our lives. The identity of a culture is reflected in the otherness of its natures. Étrange culture is an exhibition not to be missed... for the reflection of a culture and the nature of its presentation.
