Mireille Lavoie (Quebec) works with construction materials such as plywood to create sculptures with vaguely familiar, even comfortable shapes. The artist proposes a work based on five "poetic interrogations" related to natural phenomena (for example: where do waves come from? what is dew?). To each of these questions corresponds a sculptural island placed in the space of the gallery: a game of association that she leaves to the visitor to solve.
I try to keep the relationships to things around us somewhat unresolved. I like objects to be on the edge of their condition. Intriguing and complex.
Mireille Lavoie is a young artist from Quebec City. Since 1994, she has participated in numerous collective events and completed a Master's degree in Visual Arts at Université Laval. In 1997, she presented a solo show, L'Antichambre, at La Chambre Blanche, Québec. Continuing her research in sculpture, in June 1999 she exhibited Les heures solaires at Galerie L'Oeil de Poisson, Québec.
