SYN-
From neglected leftover space to tightly controlled “junkspace”, the status of spatiality raises numerous questions, notably the relationship citizens have with their environment and how they use the latter. This is the vantage point from which SYN- engages in urban exploration as an opportunity for intervention, research and reflection.
Vanessa Rigaux
While a soundscape plays, a woman posts notes on the trees in the Cabot Square. As she considers the space she improvises a dance that is connected to the words she has written.

Installed in and outside the Atwater Library and Mechanics Institute, The Stacks presents a frugal, monochromatic pageantry: a flag flying half-mast on the roof, an appliquéd banner suspended from the mezzanine, folded and stacked bedding and laundry tucked into glass cases in the foyer.
Angela Silver
Utilizing an electronic message board, this project transforms banal traffic commands into a cycle of poetic words offering to the itinerant public a subtle disruption to, and a moment of reflection on, everyday life.
Objets dansants non identifiés (O.D.N.I.)

The Wunderkammer Project involves the collection and presentation of objects found in and around the Cabot Square. The Square signifies a confluence of social spheres ; an axis of wealth and poverty, commerce and culture, nature and structure, memory and loss, neglect and revitalization.

Using the idea that urban environments produce a variety of fungus or growths, I will spend the duration of the event growing an installation. Each day there will be an addition, beginning with simple 2D painting and drawing, ending with 3D cement growths.
Les attentives
Here's what you'll find: small attentions paid to Cabot Square and these small details by attention specialists.
Pascaline Knight
Canadian Coffee Chain.

Since 2003, BOLM: The Label Project has been touring the world. People met fortuitously in public spaces are invited to donate their clothing labels, which will be sewn onto an overly branded straitjacket for fashion victims.

From May 22nd - 31st 2009, DARE-DARE invites you to the Off-Biennial, an event that will showcase various unique artistic projects including performances, dance, installations and sculpture. The projects will take place in non-conventional public spaces in and around the Cabot Square as well as the Atwater Library, a church, Alexis Nihon Plaza, the bygone Forum, Ste-Catherine Street, etc. The 19 projects in the event will question, in humoristic, political or poetic ways, ideas surrounding work in the urban environment.
The Off-Biennial will also create a space for discussion and dialogue between the public, the artists, the community surrounding the Square and the representatives of the neighbourhood. Through conferences, panel discussions and workshops, the Off-Biennial wishes to promote a variety of view points by way of diverse discussion and shared artistic, historic, political and theoretical knowledge. The idea is to open a discourse on the various practices and to adapt them in the spirit of open source.
With the Dis/location project, now in its third phase, DARE-DARE is pursuing its mandate by creating an event full of ideas. By its very structure, DARE-DARE is continually open to infiltrations, multiplicities, contaminations, rootedness and seeks to be a part of its host neighbourhood.
