Sub-event of

SUMMER ART DAY CAMP

This creative workshop consisted of the making of small-scale models of emblematic historic buildings in the Sud-Ouest borough. They were chosen by the children, following an investigation based on their knowledge of the neighborhood and the presentation of a slide show. During the week, participants made observational drawings, learned some basics at plan and elevation schematics creation, and also performed some volume composition and assembly exercises. The miniature constructions were later fixed on a pole and paraded in a procession, like famous people from their neighborhood.

Each week, the children explored the production of costumes and banners in the effigy of the neighborhood and its architectural heritage. The children were then invited to dress in their creation to participate in the great parade "Parader l'histoire" that took place on September 30, 2017.

Martin Dufrasne has degrees in art history, environmental design and interdisciplinary art. His artistic practice manifests itself mainly through installation, photography and action art. His works question the notions of value, transformation and commitment. Since 1998, in parallel to his individual practice, he has been working in duo with the artist Carl Bouchard and has occasionally collaborated on projects initiated by artist friends: Sylvie Cotton, Charles Guilbert, Daniel Danis. His work has been presented in various group and solo exhibitions, biennials and performance festivals in Quebec, Canada and abroad. In parallel to his artistic practice, Martin Dufrasne realizes projects as an author or as a curator. Co-founder of the TouTTouT artists' studios in Chicoutimi (1997), Martin Dufrasne has been active in the field of artist-run centers in Quebec as a cultural worker for some twenty years (Le LOBE/1996-2004, 3e impérial/2006-2008). He is currently the programming coordinator at DARE-DARE, a multidisciplinary art distribution center in Montreal, where he has worked since 2010.
