Split: One year later is a performance piece that Victoria Stanton has been working on since 1997. The artist defines her practice as being "BETWEEN spoken word and performance" (Esse no 40, p.38); work that involves both speech and gesture. The installation at DARE-DARE presented her research process through handwritten texts, photographs and performance props.
This "suite of soundscapes, voices and movement" (Ibid) was presented twice. Through text, song, and gesture of remarkable precision, she traced her evolving identity as a woman, artist, and member of a Jewish family.
Victoria Stanton lives and works in Montreal.
