Julie Lequin
Julie Lequin is a Montreal-area multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves between sculpture, photography, video, performance, drawing, publishing and photo-novels. Through handmade characters, improvised props, costumes and crafted sets, she transforms everyday situations into humorous and theatrical narratives that explore autofiction, identity, intimacy, work and the social construction of the artist’s identity.
She has presented her work across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia, including at LACE, Los Angeles; White Columns and Art in General, New York; the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art; YYZ Artists’ Outlet, Toronto; Centre Clark, Montreal; the HISK Institute, Ghent; and the Incheon Biennale, South Korea. Her work has also been presented at Stewart Hall, Pointe-Claire, including a 2026 exhibition-residency with Adrian Norvid, curated by Johanne Sloan. She has been an artist-in-residence at Les Récollets, Paris; HIAP, Helsinki; and Studio du Québec in Mexico City. She holds a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA from ArtCenter College of Design, Pasadena, California.
