Ælab cellule de recherche-création
Gisèle Trudel and Stéphane Claude are artists who have worked under the name Ælab since 1996, an artistic research cell they co-founded. Their collaborative practice develops works that explore the entangled relationships between art, technology, ecologies, and process philosophy. Through an approach akin to experimental documentary, Ælab creates installations and performative actions emerging from investigations conducted in liminal, unstable, and inspiring environments. Their practice connects multiple modes of inquiry while emphasizing listening, immersion, and environmental dynamics. Stéphane Claude is an artist, sound designer, sound engineer, and specialist in immersive audio. He served as lead researcher of the audio sector at OBORO (2005–2025). Gisèle Trudel is an artist who was a professor in the School of Visual and Media Arts at Université du Québec à Montréal (2003–2025) and held the Canada Research Chair MÉDIANE (mediane.uqam.ca, 2020–2025).
