Marcela Szwarc is a Polish-American multidisciplinary artist and designer who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University. Born in New York to Polish immigrant parents, she has lived in Montreal since 2021, where she has developed a practice rooted in building artistic communities. Her work spans painting, illustration, self-publishing, writing, performance, puppetry, textiles, and printmaking. It lies at the intersection of ecofeminism, magical realism, and Slavic traditions related to apotropaic symbolism and botanical knowledge. Her approach prioritizes collaboration, alternative pedagogies, and accessibility, exploring collective and polyphonic forms in which collaborators actively participate in the composition of the works, as well as strategies for solidarity and the sharing of artistic resources.
